Hi all. Defensive & Resistant Clients. I have just had my guest blog post posted on Biddy Tarot! ……….’ Imagine a client Ann who comes to you saying that she keeps getting involved with the wrong men and asking when will she meet the ‘right’ one? She draws the Emperor and the 6 of cups as obstacles on her path. You reflect back that issues from her past and her relationship with her father, might be preventing her from having a fulfilling relationship. She quietens, and mumbles ‘the men are the obstacle: they don’t let me do what I want!’ … Read more…. http://www.biddytarot.com/defensive-and-resistant-clients/

1. Readers Studio and Tarot and Psychology Conference New York April 2014
It is always wonderful in this day of global digital connectivity to actually meet the experts in your field as well as cyber space friends and I had this opportunity when I travelled to New York to attend the Readers Studio Conference from April 24th to 27th April 2014. http://www.Tarotschool.com/RS14/index.htmlreaderstsudio.com. It included the Tarot and psychology conference: http://www.Tarotschool.com/RS14/Tarotpsychologyconference.html on the first day. This a particular interest of mine, connecting the Tarot with psychology, and I found many kindred spirits in the presenters and participants at the conference. Dr. Joe Schippa a practicing psychologist, who uses Tarot, used the phrase ‘thinking of Tarot cards like inkblots in psychology/psychiatry’. He sees the cards as representing untapped creative and life skill resources within the person. Many of us know that the cards especially the 22 known as the Major Arcana represent the enduring patterns that persist in out deeper psyches, they present like ‘personalities’. Eg being a rescuer – negative Empress, Moon/ Cancer/ Pisces) or inside us unconsciously and come out as character traits e.g. strict father (Emperor), unconscious urges to control (Emperor, Devil) , or where these dominate and are longstanding, as ‘complexes’. (neuroses) or even mental health issues e.g. anxiety, depression OR often the big one for Tarot/astrologers: relationship issues. The cards can reflect the inner state of someone’s psyche ( as can the Astrology chart) and enable the client and the reader to access the unconscious , clarify where feelings are coming from i.e. underlying impulses, the replaying of childhood –parent issues in adult relationships. They are a rich source of understanding a clients inner world and our own world!
I really enjoyed the way Joe integrated the body into the session by teaching us a technique of using a tapping ( like acupressure ) technique Emotional Freedom Technique http://www.eft-therapy.com/ includes a free manual! It teaches the emotional system of the brain to reset itself. It restructures the emotions and memories, and helps to calm and enable the client to really engage with Tarot, by reducing anxiety and overwhelming feelings as the cards can be triggers of past memories and events. It can clear the emotions so that the cognitions or thoughts around a feeling, to identify the stressor. ‘This method of tapping won’t dramatically shift any core issues, it won’t cure any chronic illnesses or heal major childhood traumas, but it will calm a disrupted energy system and help us to retrain the ‘fight, http://www.thrivingnow.com/tapping-points-and-instructions/flight or freeze’ part of our subconscious body-mind.’ To see the techniques go to this site. http://www.tapintoeft.com/eft-tap-breathe/. It is not only great for clients BUT for readers too. You can use the technique just before a reading to calm yourself. Part of the technique involves an affirmation, which I found profound: ’ even though I have this ..X…. worry/problem, I deeply and freely accept myself ‘. Many people find this hard to do as they identify with their problems. Cards can expand the client view, that they are more than just the problem dilemma, distress, and thus using a spread more than just e.g. 1- 3 cards for a specific question. I use a spread that incorporates emotional, spiritual, thinking, health, work, love to expand than the client beyond the problem and this can focus on the broader parts of the person life and resources. I think where Tarot could integrate into this is where a client seems to have low self esteem distress , asking the client to choose cards from some of the more affirming cards can be a way of uplifting their self worth and give them something to aspire to.eg the Sun, Star, temperance. If tapping is used or similar techniques- meditation, deep breathing, a ritual for calming, the Tarot cards enable a deeper connection to the client’s inner complexes but resources also. One of these cards could aid with affirmation described above.
The conference and readers studio have a wealth of information and I will pass on more in my next blog/newsletter.

2. Tarot and African Religions! One Spirit Interfaith Seminary New York May 2014
‘Beneath the diversity of theological beliefs, rites, and observances lies a deeper unity of experience that is our shared spiritual heritage. Mystical spirituality is the origin of all the world religions, and every authentic spiritual path offers unique perspectives and rich insights into this deeper, direct experience of truth’.(OSIS) I am studying to become an Interfaith Minister, and I see Tarot and Astrology as paths and processes to the inner world and the Infinite. Many of the earth based religions use divination, like in Tarot, to seek messages and purpose and unity with the Divine. I was privileged to witness a divination, at my Interfaith course in New York, asking the Orissa, the life process guardians, invisible messengers and helpers of the Olorun Supreme indefinable being and the Creator (Olodumare), using water, cola nuts etc, in the Yoruba tradition, by an Afro- American woman. I also used my Tarot cards to seek out the path of our class for the year. We came up with same interpretation! The cards not only enable the opening of the unconscious but enable access to the Gods, to enable entry to a world where the archetypes of the cards speak, and help us to experience our unity with each other and higher Self/Divine.
Have you had similar experiences of this sort of synchronicity? Let me and the other Tarot community know!

November Newsletter from Jenne at TarotAstroCounselling See below : Free Webinar November & Gift Vouchers for Christmas Reading for clients and teaching also , has been a privileged experience of late, with the cards and my deeper psycho – spiritual counselling style, producing some great depth for clients ,often surprising them, including some challenges which have prompted their motivation to communicate with a partner, to spread their wings with confidence in a new business or to recognize the reemergence of depression and seeking help for that. Teaching Tarot is a delight to see a student blossoming and to share the psycho – spiritual journey it sparks in them AND enables me to refresh myself with greater perspective on the depth of the cards.. All this dovetails into my studies at One Spirit Interfaith Seminary in New York( distance learning) as going into the Self to find the Spirit or Higher Self is synchronous with Tarot.. seeking and listening to the Hermit , and knowing we have a divine spark with in us, accessible anytime is so warming and I can feel it when I pause and come into the NOW. As a recent teacher said ‘ there is no problem to solve right now’ that enables you to just be with yourself and see the SUN with in .
‘We cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses’.
“Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people.”
Free Webinar Australia East coast Summer time: 20 November: 1pm to 2.15pm Tuning in to ‘difficult’ clients
Any tarot or psychic reader will tell you that an ability to ‘read’ their clients is essential. Tuning in is easy when the person who comes for a reading is willing to engage in the process, responds to the way you’re interpreting the cards and is open to new ways of seeing whatever issue is being discussed. But what about the so-called ‘difficult’ clients, the ones who wear dark glasses, sit with their arms folded, never say a word because you’re the mind-reader and you should know what they’re thinking! Or the down , sad and confused client who is having trouble getting the words out ? or the one who just answers yes/ no/don’t know? How do you, as the reader, feel and how do you deal with the person and the negative energy such behaviour generates? What do you do???
In this FREE interactive online class Jenne Perlstein draws on her extensive experience as a Social Worker and Professional Tarot reader to help you understand why people could be presenting as:
* resistant
* obsessive
* manipulative
* aggressive
* anxious
* demanding
* dreamy
* or just plain ‘odd’!
The other side of the coin is how you respond to ‘difficult’ clients. What are you bringing into the room that may be influencing the way you perceive a client’s behaviour? To make sure the discussion stays focussed on real situations Jenne will be asking for examples from your own experience. We’ve all had so-called ‘difficult’ clients and this class provides the perfect opportunity to revisit those situations and evaluate how well we coped at the time and to consider how else we could have responded.
Time: Tuesday 19 November: 6 pm – 7.15pm USA Pacific time

Welcome:
It has been a busy and exciting time for Tarot and Astrology recently with the International Tarot Conference, client consults and deeper learning and interaction between the Tarot /Astrology world and Counselling/psychology approaches.
The Moon keeps coming up in many of my client readings lately, and it seems that many of are going though confusing times , where often relationships and self worth are at the fore. The unconscious is such a powerful force for all our motivations. We don’t realize how much we are ‘controlled ‘ by primal non- verbal , non- cognitive forces, sometimes with no awareness or with glimpses often revealed in our emotions… fear , anger, rage and deep fears of abandonment and rejection, that then motivate our behaviours before thinking can set in! . It takes so much hard work and courage to undertake this journey. It is hard to face as it is painful and needs to be revisited over one’s lifetime .. the inner child beckons….. what we didn’t we get as a child turns into the challenges in relationships- not only romantic but with family, and friends. The Moon though, guides us to the light,and with the help of the Hermit- (our higher Self,) Tarot ,Astrology, counselling, dream groups etc can support us.“One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious” C.G. Jung
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Secret Ingredient for Effective Relationship Readings:
I am presenting a webinar in 2 parts on Sept 24th and Oct 3rd about Effective Relationship Readings!via Global Spiritual Studies. Caitlín Matthews: Re Jenne’s course- This will be very good everyone! Jenne knows her stuff! 8-8-13 Tarotholics Anonymous
Any tarot reader or astrologer will tell you that questions about love relationships are top of the list with people who come for readings…questions like “Does he love me?” “I know we’re meant to be together, but when’s it going to happen?” And how many times do they, as readers, think “Why is he/she so obsessed with this person?” What’s the real issue here?”
The secret ingredient lies with understanding human behaviour, with recognising what shapes the way we react to people, the way we create and respond to situations. In these two live webinars, Jenne Perlstein draws on her experience as a Social Worker, tarot reader and astrologer to deepen your understanding of the cards and planetary influences that reveal the true story behind those relationship questions. Topics for discussion include:
* personality theories such as transactional analysis
* family of origin issues
* tarot cards and planetary influences that provide clues to underlying behavioural patterns
* ways of interacting with clients to provide a positive reading experience.
Tarot Guild of Australia 2013 International Conference http://www.tarotguild.org.au/conference/9, 10 & 11th August, 2013.
Jenne Perlstein and Linda Marson Global Spiritual Studies
The Tarot Guild of Australia celebrated its 21st birthday in style with an inspiring international tarot conference in early August. Key presenters included familiar faces from some of the most popular online classes offered through Global Spiritual Studies.
‘Just returned from Tarot Guild of Australia International Conference held in Melbourne . It was inspiring with so much deep knowledge and wisdom from amazing speakers …I feel a much greater depth with many of the cards, seeing connections between cards and their symbolism and content, much more freedom to explore innovation in spreads and placements eg looking at the direction a figure in a card is facing to catalyse exploration.( Caitlin Matthews) Another session from Rachel Pollack, working through for oneself and the client the ‘difficult not so positive cards’ that everyone fears!! eg the Devil, Death , 10 swords…. and to explore what this means for you and the client. The High Priestess connection to Kabbalah, ancient Egypt, the female Pope…..and how she can be used as the central card in a reading to explore ones spiritual path and to re-balance. Many speakers intertwined Carl Jung ‘s psychology in to their perspectives which shows how he connected so profoundly with ancient esoteric wisdom.
My presentation on Tarot Counselling and Relationships, was attended by a small enthusiastic group BUT I had the privilege of Caitlin Matthews and Mary Greer sitting in, ( International Tarot Wise Women) and giving me deeply appreciated positive feedback, that I presented essential knowledge for Tarot Readers and practical strategies..especially in the area of the eternal Tarot questions about relationships My focus was on some key counselling principles, workshopping this in relation to Tarot cards and spreads, and some relationship issues that often present in consultations .
Looking at the future I want to work with Global Spiritual Studies’ Linda Marson ( above ) Brief on line’ and CD topics such as Tarot Counselling and relationships; Tarot and depression …. continuing the connection with the psyche and Tarot.
The conference was an exciting in depth experience that convinces me more and more that Tarot can offer so much …. not just the common understanding of fortune telling or exact concrete prediction.Whilst these aspects may occur , and those with these gifts can offer a great deal, we are continuing to move beyond this ‘narrow’ definition and the opening more towards a psycho- spiritual divination that enables people to know themselves far more deeply and thus become conscious enabling choice, and the unconscious/ shadow may be embraced to guide us to our SELF.’ Watch and listen to my Conference presentation on you tube!!!!!!https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=K2RtqYJ9c0s#t=310
